4 Things Jesus is Doing for the 4th of July

4 Jul

I’m pretty sure that this is what Jesus would be doing for the 4th of July:

  1. Watersports. A must for summer holidays. Jesus Surfing
  2. Playing with fireworks. It wouldn’t be the 4th of July without some sparkler action. jesus-sparklers (2)
  3. A little kite flying. Jesus Kite
  4. Posting helpful tips for staying safe.

How odd that my plans are exactly the same…

Happy 4th of July!

Seeing God

1 Jul

Greige

I read Jamie Wright’s (aka Jamie the Very Wort Missionary) post about seeing God in everyday places a little while ago and the question she ended with kept popping up in my head:

Are you blind to God in the easy, everyday places? Does your world feel kind of greige?

And when the question pops up, I think:

I look for God. But…

Sunday Schooled: Mission Survive No Electronics Day

24 Jun

No Electronics

Well, some how, some way, we survived. With nary a TV show or movie ALL day. Everyone made it through unscathed.

It started out a little rough. But I figured that would happen since we were going cold turkey. When I announced to the fam on Friday night that we would be doing No Electronics Day they were less than enthusiastic. The Hubs just smiled and said “Oh…we’re really doing that?”

Yes. Yes, we are.

And yes, we did.

WWJT?

13 Jun

No, that question doesn’t have anything to do with this guy:

justin-timberlake

(Although, I will say, JT is still bringing it with the catchy tunes. Props.)

A mere 24 hours ago, I joined Twitter. Do I understand what’s happening? Absolutely not. # still means pound to me, not hashtag. I’m not even sure I understand how a hashtag works. Regardless of my technological ignorance, it got me thinking. WWJT? What would Jesus Tweet?

Maybe:

@TheWorld, Follow me. #OneTrueKing

And:

Free salvation! Comes with bread and wine! #WondersAndMiracles

I’m sure he would be following @TheHolySpirit and @GodAlmighty. And I would defs follow him.

Jesus Follow me

Come again? I don’t speak Christianese.

Since I’m relatively new to this whole Christian faith thing, I defs feel like I need a course on Christian language. Google must think I’m an idiot. Honestly. Anything I hear at church or read on a blog that I don’t immediately understand, I pop into a Google search. Rosetta Stone is missing a huge opportunity here. So imagine my delight when I stumbled upon this gem:

You’re welcome.

Sunday Schooled #1: Internet Campus is a Little Bit Lazy

2 Jun

Crossing out Plan A and writing Plan B on a blackboard.First, let me just say that I felt incredibly lazy this morning for going to online church instead of the real church that’s 2 minutes away. (But thank God for Internet campus! Am I right?!). Once the sermon got started, I was actually a little disappointed in myself because it just so happens that today was baptism day. I had seen the email so somewhere in my mind I knew this was happening and I wanted to be there.

My first experience with this “mass baptism” happened only about 3 weeks ago when I decided to take the fam to Wednesday Worship. I wasn’t really sure what to expect with that. I really thought it would be just like Sunday morning, only it would be Wednesday. And nighttime.

I defs got that one wrong. But I was pleasantly surprised by what it really was. It was music. And it was awesome. And there were kids baptisms.

It was amazing to see the kids talk about why they were being baptized. They all expressed how great they felt to know Jesus. They thanked their parents and their small group leaders for helping them to know Jesus. I was amazed.

I want that kind of relationship with God. I want to have the faith of a child and go to God with my empty hands lifted in praise. And I feel good knowing that by going to Internet campus, I learned more about God. I prayed. I rejoiced in The Lord. Even if I was in my bed…on my laptop…at Internet campus.
