Teething is for Babies

Being a baby is hard. There’s all the growing and learning and the inability to communicate with anyone. Then there’s also the fact that you have to grow your teeth. It’s a tough job but somebaby has to do it.

I’d like to take a moment to appeal to all the teething babies of the world on behalf of their of parents — teething hurts me more than it hurts you.

Tips For Traveling With Kids

This weekend, Big A is heading to the Grandparents’ house. For a month…It’s bittersweet, really. I know she’s in capable hands since they are my parents afterall but a month is a really long time. I’m sure she won’t have a problem with it since this has been the tradition for the last 3 or 4 years. It also doesn’t hurt that they’re her second favorite people (second only to Little A which is so adorable and sweet). I’m a close third…

Since she’s only 6, I will be escorting her to the Grandparents’ house. Oh, and bringing along Little A because I like to do things the hard way and so the rest of the fam can meet him. He is only 8 months old so he hasn’t met most of them yet seeing as they’re in a different country and all. Oh, and I’m not bringing the Hubs because he has class. So that’s me and 2 kids. Alone. On a plane. (Not technically alone since there will be other people on the plane but you know what I mean…)

Homemade Hump Day: Farmer’s Market Edition Part 2

Last week I showed you the haul I got at the Mueller Farmer’s Market and the yummy Cucumber Salad with Roasted Chocolate Cherry Tomatoes I made with it. BTW, I made a pasta dish the next night and was kicking myself for not throwing in some of those tomatoes. So next time it’s pasta night, those will be the first thing I put in it.

After making the salad, I still had the blackberries and peaches. I love this time of year in Texas because I know I’m never more than 10 minutes from a stand on the side of the road selling Texas peaches. So. Good!…Anyway…that fruit had dessert written all over it.

It had Blackberry-Peach Crisp written all over it to be exact.

So I helped that fruit fulfill its fruity destiny and made it into a Blackberry-Peach Crisp.

Saturday Soundtrack: Manifesto by The City Harmonic

Love, Love LOVE(!!!!) this song. The music is awesome, the lyrics are simple but powerful (and you already know some of them since part of the lyrics are The Lord’s Prayer). Defs feelin it.

I’m sure the kids wish we would listen to an assortment of songs instead of this one on repeat but they’re just going to have to deal with it for the moment.

I highly recommend listening to this in the morning to get you mind right for the day to come. Singing at the top of your lungs in the car is also highly recommended.

 

 

4 Things Jesus is Doing for the 4th of July

I’m pretty sure that this is what Jesus would be doing for the 4th of July:

1. Watersports. A must for summer holidays. 
2. Playing with fireworks. It wouldn’t be the 4th of July without some sparkler action. 
3. A little kite flying. 
4. Posting helpful tips for staying safe.

How odd that my plans are exactly the same…

Homemade Hump Day: Farmer’s Market Edition

There is something about summer that just demands fresh food. Maybe it’s because it’s so effing hot — we have officially reached the triple digits here in Austin — that I need to conserve energy…in my digestive tract… Maybe it’s because summer and nature just seem to go hand in hand. Who knows but the desire for something super fresh hit this weekend. So on Sunday, I packed up the kids and copious amounts of water and hit the farmer’s market.

Seeing God

I read Jamie Wright’s (aka Jamie the Very Wort Missionary) post about seeing God in everyday places a little while ago and the question she ended with kept popping up in my head:

Are you blind to God in the easy, everyday places? Does your world feel kind of greige?

And when the question pops up, I think:

I look for God. But…
